Shelley Winters stands between two of Anne Frank's childhood friends
(l-r) Hanneli Pick-Gosslar of Israel and Jaqueline Sanders-van Maarsen
of Holland who flew in for the Los Angeles premiere. Ms. Winters, who
won an Academy Award for her role as Mrs. van Pels in the movie The
Diary of Anne Frank, was the featured speaker.
Gerald R. Molen, one of the Academy Award winning producers of
Schindler's List and producer of the recent The Lost World: Jurassic
Park, presented The Living Hero Award to Miep Gies at the Los Angeles
Premiere. Mr. Molen is now an executive producer of the "In Search of the
Heroes" series.
Cornelis Suijk, International Director of the Anne Frank Center - USA,
accepted Miep Gies' Living Hero Award in her absence. Mr. Suijk's
contribution to Forget Me Not are too numerous to list, but we are humbly
grateful.
Jon Blair, the Academy Award winning producer, writer and director of
the documentary Anne Frank Remembered, showed his support at the Los
Angeles premiere of Forget Me Not.
A courageous hero, Miep Gies played a critical role in Anne Frank's
life and in rescuing the beloved diary. Mrs. Gies provides the
beautiful introduction for Forget Me Not. To order a picture postcard
like the one here, contact the bookstore of the Anne Frank Center - USA. (You can visit
the Anne Frank Center's website from our Recommended Links page.)
Anne Frank's diary sat on David Barnouw's desk at the Dutch State
Institute for War Documentation for many years. His scientific analysis
helped establish the authenticity of the diary and led to his
co-authorship of The Diary of Anne Frank-The Critical Edition.
Alice Berkman-Williams of Weatherford, Texas painted this portrait of
Anne Frank we were privileged to use in Forget Me Not. This gift to Miep
Gies now hangs in her home in Amsterdam.
Anne Frank wanted to fly away, just like the seagulls she saw flying over her hiding place.
