The past encounters the present when contemporary young people and historical characters meet face to face.
"Man of Honor" is an interview with the hero of San Jacinto conducted by a high school journalist looking for a story. And General Sam Houston loves to tell them! Governor of two states and President of an independent republic, even with all of his flaws, Houston was governed by honor, an integrity that maintained his loyalty to the Union even when all around him were shouting, "Secession!"
Students today need heroes, but find them lacking. When revisers of history present characters warts and all, the warts often obscure the values the figures clung to. Tubman and Houston and the others anticipated in the series weren't perfect, but their lives were driven by qualities our students are searching for and admire.
